if you're going to a protest where you expect to get arrested it's extremely important to have arrest training. this thread will not be as useful as a proper training, but i can offer a few tips:

The young person whose poster this is has come to many protests since October and watching the names on her poster grow every time I see her is a punch in the gut. I cannot imagine the pain she must feel and yet on NU’s encampment I saw her actively leading things despite it all.

So fucking sinister. We cannot let up.

Through the genocide, they have not stopped writing.

Most have been made homeless.

All want to escape.

They need all of our help, so we want to tell you about them. 🧵

One of the largest humanitarian aid warehouse in Rafah was bombed yesterday. Burn all food donations made through airdrop. Israel is using starvation as weapon of War in Gaza. This is a war crime under international humanitarian law.

I cannot stop thinking about the choice to point guns at students who spent their entire childhoods training to survive too frequent school shootings and who are out protesting because students half way across the world are being murdered

If you’re faculty at a university where there are protests, remember there are lots of ways to support, publicly & privately, tenured or not. Here’s a few:
-Know your faculty rights & rules
-Amplify protest info on your social media, privately to colleagues or in class

Every writer I seen standing by PEN — none of them surprise me. And if most of us are honest with ourselves, we never expected them to be alongside us. So let them save the banned books who will be read by everyone but the Palestinian people who are being genocided by us.

The problem with PEN America is that they CAN express full solidarity & HAVE. They’ve done it before, condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with their whole chest. Palestine is just the blaring exception. You can’t pretend now to be an org above politics. You just can’t!

I remain infuriated with the literati/establishment elite doubling down on these 'fighting anti-DEI measures' excuses for listening to Palestinians DURING AN ACTIVE GENOCIDE. None of you are serious people. All of you are complicit in pushing us out of your collectives.

This statement from Emory University protestors is incredible.

1. The university called the police to brutalize their own faculty
2. Maybe certain demographics of people will realize through the powerlessness of this moment that not even they are immune to the brutality of a militarized, authoritarian police force & radicalize
