#DidYouKnow Emperor Pedro II of Brazil visited #GlasnevinCemetery in 1878, and remarked that Daniel O'Connell's crypt was a tomb fit for a king.
He was so impressed that he asked his aide to collect some grass and daisies from around the Tower as souvenirs!

Today marks the 108th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.
The Sigerson Memorial in #GlasnevinCemetery commemorates those who fought during the Rising. The rebel being cradled by Mother Ireland in the monument is widely believed to represent Patrick Pearse.

Recently our Year 14 History class visited Dublin for the day. They went to Kilmainham Gaol and Glasnevin Cemetry, both sites associated and linked with their A2 study of Ireland and Partition. The memorial of John 'Amnesty' Nolan (1846-1887), a member of the IRB who played a key role in advocating for the release of nationalist prisoners. Nolan died in New York in 1887, and a monument was erected in his memory in #GlasnevinCemetery by Michael Davitt.

The reclining angel atop the grave of Alderman John Reynolds was considered quite risqué when the monument was erected in 1868!
It's suspected that the cross in her arm may have been placed to ward off accusations of paganism.
