Pleased to meet today Gabriel Lambert, Advisor to the Executive Secretary, United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, to discuss the Food and Agriculture Organization support to #COP16 that will be held in #KSA 🇸🇦 in December 2024.

Today, I had the pleasure to discuss with João Bosco Monte president of Brazil Africa Institute / Instituto Brasil África a cooperation in the areas of:
💧Developing irrigation systems for sugarcane crop
🌱Enhancing agricultural cooperatives
👨‍🎓Building capabilities of young researchers under the umbrella of the #SSC

⛔ Import bans hinder relief efforts. FAO in Near East and North Africa relies on supplies from Egypt via Rafah crossing. Delays and logistics challenges impact aid delivery. We must find solutions! 🚚 #AidLogistics

Gaza’s local production of staples—fish, dairy, veggies, olive oil—has halted. Also, meat and dairy producers suffer as livestock is lost due to conflict. Livelihoods are shattered and vital income sources have vanished.

“Conflict devastates livelihoods! Gaza’s farmers and herders face disruptions in production 🌾, livestock losses, and limited resources. Let’s support sustainable agriculture and food security,” today I highlighted at the United Nations press briefing in Geneva.

I had the pleasure to meet Jinyoung Kim, country Director, KOICA EGYPT OFFICE in the presence of Amb. Ashraf Ibrahim, SG #EAPD , to discuss joint cooperation in the fields of agriculture innovation, food safety and food loss and waste under the umbrella of South-South cooperation.

Today I had the pleasure to meet Eng. Ahmad Alayadh, Saudi Deputy Minister of Agriculture. We discussed the upcoming #COP16 , taking place in Riyadh during Dec. 2024 - an event for accelerating action on land restoration, drought resilience, and green transition.🌟🇸🇦🌿 #NERC37

Let’s remember, disaster risk management is a shared responsibility. Let’s work collaboratively to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems in the NENA region! 🌿🤝 #NERC37

While some elements of anticipatory action 🌟 exist in NENA, a comprehensive system is lacking. Let’s adopt multi-hazard approaches, prioritize risk reduction, and build resilient institutions. Together, we can face crises head-on! #NERC37

منطقة الشرق الأدنى وشمال إفريقيا بحاجة شديدة إلى العودة إلى المسار الصحيح لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة المتعلقة ببالقضاء على الجوع والفقر.
ومن المؤكد أنه لن يتم ذلك إلا من خلال العمل على تحويل الأنظمة الغذائية الزراعية لتكون أكثر كفاءة وشمولاً واستدامة وقدرة على الصمود.

Protracted conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Gaza are wreaking havoc on agrifood systems. 🌾 Hunger and malnutrition rates have surged. Let’s stand together to alleviate suffering. #NERC37

Our region needs to get back on track to meet food and nutrition #SDG targets.

This will only be achieved by transforming #agrifood systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable.
