Transgender children exist and transgender children deserve to exist. The Kentucky State Legislature has voted to remove basic rights from members of the trans community, their parents, and their doctors.

Not once, in all of human history, have the people banning books and arresting librarians been on the same side as freedom and liberty.

A reminder that librarians and teachers are ALSO aunts, uncles, moms and dads, grandparents, sons and daughters and cousins. We are members of families and we care about our students' families, too.

Our message to Fayette County Public Schools students, staff, and families tonight is clear: we stand with our trans community. And we remain unwavering in our commitment to ensuring every child learns in a safe, supportive school community where they know they belong and are valued and loved.

I wish the legislature spent as much taxpayer funded time addressing housing as they do hyperfocusing on trans children. There are more homeless children in KY than trans kids. And yet

Yesterday, I opposed a bill that will lead to banning books a minority of parents want out of high school libraries. Books that show many kids they're not alone.

We must stop underestimating kids and letting 'Moms for Liberty' undermine moms who are for fairness and inclusion.
