AA810’s last pilot Sandy Gunn. Murdered 80 years ago today for his part in the #greatescape alongside William Grisman, Tony Hayter, Clement McGarr, Harold Milford, Denys Street, and John Williams.

He was 24 years old.

OTD in 1944, the real ' #GreatEscape ' was launched.

In time, it inspired a Hollywood epic, but while #TheGreatEscape (1963) is a heavily fictionalised look at the break out of Stalag Luft III, some of those involved knew something of the reality behind their portrayal...

80 years ago 50 Airmen were murdered by the German Gestapo after escaping Stalag Luft 3. Six of them were Polish.

On Saturday Eden Camp Modern History Museum remembered those by building a replica tunnel.

Our own Andy Dziegiel, whose father was in Stalag Luft 3, travelled the tunnel.
