St. John's Church, #Lancaster , was the church for the new wealthy merchant class.

The first West Indies bound trade ship to leave #Lancaster trading in slave-produced goods was the Lamb.

Robert Lawson, a Quaker, was the merchant in charge of the ship.

Yesterday I had the pleasure to take part in a series of events for the Facing the Past exhibition catalogue launch. Professor Alan Rice of IBAR UCLan opened the day with a thoughtful and informative tour and it was great to speak alongside colleagues like Kirsty Roberts 1/

The Rawlinson/Lindow family were prominent slave traders in #Lancaster .

In 2020 their family memorial was graffitied with the words 'Slave Trader.'
