If you are comparing yourself to others and feeling like you're not good enough:

Remember:
Your mind is good at playing tricks on you

One of those tricks is called comparing mind (and it typically follows the negativity bias)

You don't have to believe everything your mind

If you want to be more present when you get home at the end of a busy day and turn off all the thoughts, replays, worries, and concerns, here are 3 key tips:

1. Put your phone in a cupboard and don't take it out.

2. Imagine closing the door of your house with everything related

Succeeding in a career in medicine in the modern mess of healthcare takes more than being an excellent clinician.ย

It also takes fortitude, adaptability, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence.ย

What would you add to the list?

Effective physician leadership requires confidence.

Confidence requires competence.

Competence requires self-mastery.

Self-mastery requires mindful awareness -- not just of your external environment but of your internal environment as well.

In moments when you get caught in worries about how smart or articulate you seem, remind yourself:

What others think of me is none of my business.

What others think of me is none of my business.

What others think of me is none of my business.

It's a rare person who doesn't crave peace of mind. So many times, though, we give our inner peace away, voluntarily at that.

With , we see this more clearly and we realize we have a choice.

We often think that our notes need to be stellar, proving our worth as a physician.

The reality is that the note is just a note.

Be mindful.
Accept reality.
Save time.
Reclaim your life.

Exhausted, burned out GI doc: I did 10 scopes on Monday. 9 went perfectly and 1 had the tiniest imperfection, not even rising to a complication, and Iโ€™m up at night playing that one over and over.

The negativity bias is real.

Brain acts like a sieve for positives. Holds tight

The problem with comparisons as a physician:

Out of everyone who wanted to wear a white coatโ€ฆ

A small percentage finished pre-med requirements โ€”>

A small percentage got into medical school
โ€”>

Your peer group is already the top 1%. You may no longer be the smartest or most

Reducing reactivity = mitigating the impact of the thousands of micro-moments in a physicians day that may or may not go your way

Can be death by 1000 paper cuts or complete inner peace

As a physician leaderโ€ฆ

Especially important to be authentic

Your staff donโ€™t need you to be perfect, invulnerable, always โ€œon.โ€

They want you to be relatable, human, real.

They want you to be yourself.
