By the way, we've moved away from this platform as everybody should, right? Find us at mastodon.social/@gdal

Just sent another $300+ to OSGeo! Reminder: all proceeds go to support the maintainers of GDAL! And it’s not just shirts - we’ve got hoodies too.

Blayne Chard from Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand did a bunch of useful research to show that NZ would have no problem using Esri's LERC compression and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (a.k.a COG) (available in recent gdal org) to store and stream their raster elevation content. Visit github.com/linz/elevation… to learn more.

If you use GDAL with Conda, see github.com/conda-forge/gd… for instructions to upgrade your existing environment to recent GDAL builds that now use libjpeg-turbo

Even Rouault posted a nice summary of the work he has done for the gdal org sponsorship program to the mailing list lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/gdal… Thank you so much to the sponsors for supporting such high impact activities that benefit everyone using GDAL. gdal.org/sponsors/index…

Due to docker.com recent move, GDAL Docker images are migrated to ghcr.io/osgeo/gdal{:tagname} : lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/gdal…

Big news. @gdalOrg 3.7.0 will let you open & convert raster datasets stored as Esri FileGeodatabase. Of course, QGIS using this GDAL version will benefit from that new capability. github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pul…

Thanks to Kikitte Lee for contributing a new raster->vector polygonizer algorithm, that is up to 10 times faster in some cases: github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pul…

All that made possible by us. And practicality of working directly from will increase again when sozip reaches your GDAL build

Try me now on Conda Forge with QGIS !
conda create --name sozip_test
conda activate sozip_test
conda install -c gdal-master gdal
conda install -c conda-forge qgis
And with a GeoPackage file:
sozip -j out.gpkg.zip /path/to/in.gpkg
qgis out.gpkg.zip

Thanks to Hobb Deep, our master builds are now available back on Conda on the 'gdal-master' channel. All details at gdal.org/download.html#…. Using bleeding edge GDAL has never been so easy

There are limits to our good will that some have 'precisely' exceeded :-) And our abstraction model doesn't necessarily capture all specialized data models.
