It is a rare privilege to experience the departure of migratory #shorebirds in 1part of the world & be there as the birds arrive elsewhere. Tim Oortwijn of Wadden & Delta Centre had it. He witnessed departing bar-tailed #godwits Parc National du Banc d'Arguin - PNBA in mid April & arrivals on Texel ca week later.
The wonderful SARILHOS made it to #Iceland last night! We wish her a very successful, well - let's call it happy, breeding season!
For some background reading on the present phase of the life of black-tailed #godwits , see the recent #OpenAccess paper onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…
No, not quite. At the latitude of central Portugal, #whimbrel ESCADINHAS took turn to right to stop in Bahía de Baiona in southwest Galicia. Probably thwarted by fierce northern winds. What an excellent sense of where land is!

Some of us at birdeyes.org had the privilege to reflect on what it means to be a scientist faced with continuous #biodiversity loss and with the relentless & predicted #ClimateCrisis .

Wow, the best thing of publishing (apart from the writing) is the reading, and citations may indicate how much a paper is read.
Nice that our paper on individual development of #migration in flocking #shorebird migrant based on #tracking got good score.

Simply amazing to see migratory tracks of birds as they fly across our planet connecting people & #criticallyimportant #wetlands
Conservation action by all along a #flyway network of sites is of highest priority so these international travellers survive

Today on #WetlandsWednesday I want to share with you one of my country - Zambia’s 🇿🇲 exquisite Royal Ceremony that takes place in the Zambezi Floodplain system, also a RAMSAR Site under our convention Convention on Wetlands. By the way several traditional ceremonies happen around water…
Great to have birdeyes.org of University of Groningen represented at PRCM-Forum by Dr Mohamed Henriques (who gave a plenary today) and Dr Hacen El Hacen (who took the photo). Birds have a lot to tell us, and as shorebird scientists we try to listen, interpret carefully & share.
The prey transect counts were rudely disturbed by a sandstorm. Even the barn swallows decided to sit this one out. Luckily for us, after rain not only comes sunshine, but also harriers and larks!
