Following the installation of ALERT, we are very grateful to Brahmal Vasudevan and Shanthi Kandiah for giving Imperial College London the opportunity to be the setting for a striking new artwork by Antony Gormley, one of the UK’s foremost living artists.

In preparation for their trip to Jupiter Artland, P1 have been learning about some of the artists whose work they will see. We looked at ‘Firmament’ by Antony Gormley and how it made shadows on the ground. This was the inspiration for some great artwork using tape and pastels.

May I present the Antony Gormley sculpture 'Alert' that's recently been erected (excuse the pun) on Imperial College campus.
In case you're wondering: according to Gormley, it's meant to represent a figure 'balancing on the balls of the feet while squatting on its haunches' 🧐

This mysterious life-size statue of a man contemplating the water held in his cupped hands is the work of the celebrated British sculptor Antony Gormley. You can find Sound II, fashioned from lead out of a plaster cast of the artist’s own body, in the Cathedral Crypt.
