The conviction of Stella Kisembo for assaulting a journalist highlights the need to protect press freedom. Journalists are crucial in holding power accountable. Violence against them undermines democracy. Justice served is a step toward creating a safe environment for journalists

Fort Portal court convicts Stella Kisembo for assaulting Seperiano Tugumisirize, a Voice of Tooro journalist. Tugumisirize was attacked on Dec 8, 2018, while investigating the reopening of Bethsaida church after Police closure. Journalists deserve safety in reporting.

HRNJ-Uganda has hosted members UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication chapter as part of our ongoing partnership since 2014. Through our university outreach program, we provide guidance & mentorship to young journalists, empowering the next generation with practical skills and journalistic knowledge.

Self-censorship in journalism can stifle truth and compromise integrity. Newsrooms must foster environments where journalists feel empowered to report without fear. Encouraging open dialogue, and prioritizing editorial independence are key steps in preventing self-censorship.
