Grounded by today's bad weather, these migrant Greenland White-fronted Geese were on the crofts at Cleat, a favoured site for them on Barra.

Heaps of Redshank grounded by the rain on Barra today along with the first pulse of Dunlin, 4 species of migrant geese and unusually high numbers of Black-headed Gulls. Every raincloud has a silver lining!

Our first Cuckoo of the year is back on Barra and singing strongly along with a nice arrival of migrants including our first returning Sand Martins and Common Sandpiper. There must be a Corncrake or two out there somewhere...

Saturdays Sandwich Tern or a different bird over Traigh Mhor late morning. Happily feeding just off shore until lost to view to one of the frequent very heavy blustery showers. Also my first Willow Warbler of the year possibly thinking β€˜what have I done to deserve this.’

It's that time of year when every day seems to bring new birds. Our first Little Terns of the year were a welcome sight at Traigh Mhor today.

More summer migrants have been arriving on Barra in the past few days. Willow Warbler and Wheatear numbers are building up nicely, the first Arctic Skua and Bonxie seen offshore and a Sandwich Tern, never a common species here, was on the airport beach today.

It seems to be an exceptionally good spring for Shelducks on Barra and Vatersay. If they all stick around, the islands are going to be awash with very cute Shelducklings this summer!

Can anyone tell me what type of bird this is? Spotted it yesterday as well, looks like a semi-albino sparrow - and think it’s hanging out with a sparrow too.

Beautiful male Merlin landed on the fence down the crofts. Managed a few shots but always looking away before a van driving by spooked it
