This legis was amended from a firearm free zone to requiring conceal carry permit in this area. The committee decided to keep bill alive as Rep. Knox works on amendments and coordinates with Sen. Talbot who has similar bill. Appreciate bipartisan support to figure out a solution.

Yesterday Rep. Mandie Landry’s bill that increases penalties for malfeasance in office by public officials passed the house.

New Orleans Leaders are at the capitol this morning to support State Rep.Alonzo Knox’s House Bill 498 which would create “firearm-free” zones in the French Quarter, Downtown Development District and the Convention Center, outlawing the permitless carry law in tourist areas.

There are 2 bills to create New Orleans exemption to new conceal carry law and as Clancy DuBos explains, it’s needed.
HB 498 by Rep. Knox (D) creates a firearm free zone for downtown, convention center and FQ.
SB 419 by Sen. Talbot (R) requires a permit to carry concealed in FQ.
