The war in Ukraine has amplified concerns about nuclear proliferation, but how worried should we be?

In a new IFRI paper, I sort through proliferation risk factors, analyze which are most concerning, and apply these insights to East Asia & the Mideast. ifri.org/sites/default/…

Delighted to see my new International Studies Quarterly article with Lauren Sukin on how respondents in Poland, Romania, and the Baltic countries evaluated U.S. reassurance efforts in March 2022, not long after Russia initiated its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

A brief 🧵.

The Swiss Federal Council has decided not to join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at this time after a reassessment of its merits. A press release is available at the link, as is a detailed report by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

In my report for CNA, I look at Russia’s approach to the global nuclear order since the 1990s and what’s change since the war in Ukraine. The report also looks at Russia’s positions on the IAEA/NPT, deployment of NSNW to Belarus, and the CTBT. cna.org/reports/2024/0…
