I’m so thrilled that the Mali chapter has been included in our sample booklet. It was pure joy to work with Toby Green on constructing the enquiry and I learnt so much. Hugely indebted to his scholarship and generosity.

If I wasn’t already excited at the prospect of writing a Ks3 curriculum over the next year, I am now.

Stories are so powerful but really good ones are super difficult and time-consuming to write. Fortunately, a team of superstar authors have done the hard work for you! Check out the stunning sample chapters from below. Some further thoughts in a short 🧵

It’s getting so exciting. Have a read of some of these stories… they genuinely help students understand the places and people of the past

Notice too that we see who wrote which chapter. This builds on Michael Fordham's idea that all history texts are authored; they are not neutral piles of facts. All historical accounts are necessarily interpretations: the voice, style & method of the author should be visible. 3/3

You start to see weaving of threads: eg my Baghdad chapter plants seeds about Islam which speed up access in subsequent chapters such as the dramatic quest for Arabic texts by Adelard in the 12th century, or the artistic & devotional worlds of all Muslims we later encounter 2/3

Notice how each chapter author is credited. This was inspired by Michael Fordham 's work that 'the textbook is an interpretation'. It's small, carefully considered touches like this that sets this series apart. Ambitious, rigorous, coherent, accessible and I absolutely love it!
