Thanks to our guest speakers Darren McAndrew and Lorraine Muckian, Vancouver GAA Divisional Board, for discussing the GAA growth in BC & sharing the plans for the 2024 Canadian National Championships at our business breakfast this morning. Sounds like it will be an amazing event!

Bealtaine, the Celtic feast day held on May 1st, traditionally celebrates the first day of summer in Ireland.

The feast day is typically marked with the lighting of bonfires, a practice that continues to this day on the Hill of Uisneach.

We were delighted to have Fiona Penollar, Director General of Citizen Services, at the Consulate to meet Irish community groups in Vancouver. DG Penollar's role includes overseeing the Irish Abroad Unit, which provides support for and engagement with the global Irish community.

Today we welcome Páírc Náisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí – Ireland’s first Marine National Park and our eighth National Park.

The Pairc includes the Conor Pass, as well as new sites at Inch Peninsula, Mount Brandon and the Owenmore River in Co. Kerry.

Today marks the International Day for Monuments and Sites. In Ireland historical sites and monuments can be found around just about every corner, from megalithic tombs to castles to monastic sites. There are even Viking ruins in a supermarket! Here are some of our heritage sites:

A massive thank you to Louise Nealon for joining us this morning for an online conversation about her debut novel, Snowflake, as part of this year's One Dublin One Book programme. It was great to hear from Louise about the inspiration for the book and its unique characters.

It was a busy month in March for Vancouver GAA, with the beginning of the Vancouver GAA Spring league, The Annual St.Patricks day Tournament and an opportunity to meet the Tánaiste, Micheál Martin at Irelands National Reception on the week of St. Patricks day.

A huge thank you to our April Business Breakfast guest speaker, Seán Heather.
Seán shared trail-blazing journey in the hospitality industry over the past 27 years. We also got to see a trailer for 'The Heather Rising”, an upcoming documentary that Seán will be the subject of.

Last month, Consul General Geagan attended the Consular Corps Luncheon in Government House co-hosted by Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin and the Honourable Bruce Ralston; and informative briefings at Parliament Buildings.
