Force, hatred, history ... That’s not life for men and women ... it’s the very opposite of that that is really life. #JamesJoyce | Curated by Pádraig Ó Floinn.

Yesterday we had the honour of presenting this painting entitled Child of Maam to President Higgins at Áras an Uachtarán. My wonderful sister Frances took my notes and wrote this poignant piece, which she read to the president. It was quite emotional.

James Joyce believed he'd included 500 river names in Anna Livia Plurabelle. He'd have been delighted to learn that Wake readers went on to find more than 1100 of them, listed in fweet as 'Cluster:rivers', but identified here by Davy Cunningham.

I started adding color to my Finnegans Wake simply to keep up with the river counts this one is 86 which may be higher now
🌀🌀🌀
A few years later it was so much fun to try to visualize Joyce’s ‘meeting of the waters’ merging the Mississippi and the Liffey aka the Missisliffi

Unfortunately, the 'Antisemitic Octopus' is a very real, hateful thing. I believe I may have been the first scholar to identify its roots in 19th century French literature which Joyce certainly knew. HOWEVER, sometimes, an octopus is just an octopus: academic.oup.com/res/article/64…

John O'Connell James Joyce Gazette Faber Books Hi John. As Sam says, it’s not known if they survive. If the story about two copies arriving on the train is true, then 901 and 902 were the pair in question. That one of the two was inscribed to Nora is not true either. twitter.com/UBLibraries/st…
