The air quality is bad statewide, but it's the worst south and west of Hartford. Visibility is down to 1 mile in Bridgeport!

Smoky again Thursday. While likely a bit less than today, low air quality is still an issue. Smoke will continue off and on at varying levels into Friday and we may not truly kick it until this weekend.

The smoke is some of the worst we have ever seen in this area! While it remains smoky tomorrow, it won't be at these concentrations. This is not just unhealthy for sensitive groups but for everyone!

[6 AM] The red sunrise this morning is attributed to wildfire smoke overspreading New England from Quebec. Sensitive groups should avoid prolonged outdoor activity today, as this smoke WILL reach the surface. Here is one model's idea of near-surface smoke concentrations

We need rain to wash the pollen out of the air, water our lawn/garden and reduce the brush fire risk.
The next chance for rain is this weekend. The timing is still tricky. It may be the wettest Saturday afternoon into early Sunday. But that can still change.

Fires in British Columbia and Alberta are responsible for the smoke in our sky this week. It's traveling more than 3,500 miles along the jet stream, high in the atmosphere! Here's a look at how.
