Making Jericho the long way round, not the short cut. Yes to 'destination Jericho' traffic - deliveries + customers. No to traffic filters + pedestrianisation

MAGDALEN ROAD BUSINESS SURVEY OUT!
Many councillors claim that the introduction of LTNs has been good for businesses in the streets East Oxford. However, these claims do not match the nightmare many of us experience on a daily basis.

The giveaway is that they're failing to install the power capacity needed for a wholesale switch to electric vehicles. Their real agenda is a big reduction in car ownership and severe restrictions on mobility - 'climate lockdowns' and 15-minute cities.

'Oh my God your life is really going to change, and not for the better - when the traffic filters come in - like a single mum I met the other day'.

Liveable Streets (aka the council) Zuhuru Plummer lets the truth slip out.

Thereā€™s no doubt in our mind what will happen with the traffic filters. When elected representatives & council officers are so close to lobby groups like Cyclox & Liveable Streets whilst residents are feeling ignored itā€™s a huge concern.

This is shocking and fortunately we havenā€™t seen this level of criminal activity in Oxford

What we hear lots of within our LTNs is increased drug dealing, visible drug usage, car break-ins and residents - particularly lone females - feeling unsafe.

Letā€™s be clear, officers didnā€™t want the concession and they donā€™t expect it to work - hence the small print!
Conceding for now allowed Labour councillors to save face & their seats and scheme to be introduced.
No pats on the back from us šŸ‘Ž

The truth about Magdalen Road is that most businesses are still struggling due to the LTN's & loss of parking. Cllr Emily Kerr knows this but shamefully chooses to ignore the shop owners who don't shore up her narrative that all is well.

Interesting to note there's only one non-white business on this list. It must feel like gentrification to many of the people living in the area. Useful businesses being replaced with coffee shops. Round the corner is Cowley Road with hundreds of ethnically diverse businesses.

**BUSINESS SURVEY - MAGDALEN ROAD**

This is very good from Charlotte Gill on Will Norman.

'In short, an unelected man who loves cycling has been given carte blanche to re-write the capitalā€™s infrastructure without any obvious experience or the democratic mandate to justify the changes.'

Pin this video to your timeline! If you want to understand the hypocrisy and utter unfairness of LTNs, this does it better than any amount of papers or research reports.

Welcome to Oxford.

Ring Road is closed with miles of queuing traffic.

This is the same ring road that will have to take all cross town traffic when bus gates are introduced this year.

For anyone who thinks 'it's all going to be fine' for us in Jericho when the bus gates are installed ... the reality is that some of us will find that it's been made far too difficult to go anywhere and we end up staying at home.

The schools are out and St Clements is pretty quite during the morning rush hour, as is typical out of term time.

This location is getting a bus gate 7am -7pm seven days a week to combat congestion - that pretty much doesn't exist when the private schools are out.

Absolutely unrealā€¦ they call us conspiracy theorists for saying east Oxford is being treated differently to North but when faced with two 30 minute closures once a fortnight suddenly Andrew Gant thinks this is a bad thing. This is the man that closed the east of the city 24/7

No business owner in East Oxford we know is voting for Labour, Greens or LibDems. The support for the Independents is shown in the number of posters for candidates John Skinner, Sal Naqvi and David Henwood in our windows. oxfordmail.co.uk/news/24242535.ā€¦

We've heard the Westminster University active travel crew were interviewing cyclists (pedestrians?) on Bullingdon Road / James Street today, asking about LTNs.

A) the schools are out.
B) it's Eid.
C) local folks who uses their car for work will, erm, be away.

Great sampling!
