We continue to build on this part of our whole school approach. It’s not a sticky plaster to ‘fix’ a mental wellness issue or an add on in curriculum. It’s a long term culture strategy in our organisations to benefit young people and wider. What we practice grows stronger.

Teaching is not control. It is its opposite. Anyone who knows anything real about it from the inside understands this. There are base techniques the base might use to control but, really, they're steps a novice dancer might practice. Why have we reduced our art form to a basic?

A key thought about teacher workload…

I doubt a musician would do a 5/6 hr gig every day for 7-8 weeks, having to plan new material every night (from scratch) for the next day to an audience that may not even want listen/disrupt. That’s not sustainable. But for teachers…..

If we spent more money on supporting the development and learning of children aged 0 to 5, we would probably save a lot of money trying to solve problems further down the line.

From horror show to triumph! This is the moment when pianist Maria Joao Pires realises - as the orchestra starts to play - that she has learned the wrong piece for a concert. With no sheet music to fall back on, she has to keep calm and carry on. She is AMAZING. As is conductor

Lord Ken Clarke: ' I always fear... about the risks of moving towards an elected dictatorship in this country. The sovereignty of Parliament has its limits, which are the limits of the rule of law... in a liberal democratic society such as ours.'

I think what makes me instinctively want to kick against so much of the dominant discourse in education now is the insistent certainty. There used to be a shared acknowledgement that much in teaching is provisional - mights and maybes. Now it's all a strident 'This is the way.'

Wrote this seven years ago. Still the best thing I’ve written about teaching. It’s even more true now than it ever was then.

Also sums up for me a big part of why retention is such an issue. Teaching is the answer.

Working in a primary school must be one of the most fantastic places to have a sense of community, belonging and purpose. Christmas productions are a wonderful way to celebrate learning & at the same time celebrate community - Thank you Mellor Primary for a wonderful week.

I've just watched again branwen jeffreys sensitive but hard hitting film on tragic events at Caversham PS. I'd urge followers to set aside 30 mins and decide whether Ofsted is still fit for purpose. Please share and invite to others to ensure wide coverage bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

As a colleague I respect today, said, 'The system would close down immediately if all current senior leaders stopped inspecting'. It's simple, isn't it?
