Candidates, it is perfectly okay to ask the inviting department chair (or faculty host) what their interview process entails, and what you should expect through the process. Ask about what seminar/'chalk talk' format works well and not, etc.

Recently, I've received an uptick in emails requesting PhD admission. The emails are remarkably similar. I did an experiment and they match almost perfectly.
