S. Water St is being presented at a Mass. Transportation innovation conference as an example of a Self-Enforcing Roadway - a street where design changes have reduced the need for police enforcement because of physical traffic calming.

Mayor Brett Smiley's plan would undo this and move us backwards.

They 195 study recommended ‘the city should consider reducing the buffer width of the bike lane on South Water Street from seven feet to six feet, and increasing the adjacent parking lane width from seven feet to eight feet.’

This sounds like an inexpensive thing to try 1rst.

We absolutely support the recommendation within the 195 Commission report to narrow the bike lane buffer and widen the single travel lane so drivers can have more space to navigate parallel parking and deliveries. Mayor Brett Smiley
