Some part of my speech in full council in regards to our 2024 budget

'On Tuesdays I often see families coming into libraries after school. These people walk here, they aren't going to take the bus to other libraries and this council doesn't want them to use cars.

'There seemed to be a genuine feeling that this could be done.

'What about co-locating staff into libraries? The Labour council voted for these cuts last year.

Had they not dithered, some better ways to take the service forward could have been found.

'First of all, libraries. There was a line in last years budgets putting in a reduction on libraries due to start this year. £3.4M.

Not far off this years figure of £3.5M.

Last year we were assured this wasn't about closing libraries.

Cllr Jon Hunt stood just now, here are the highlights of his speech:

'This is a truly devastating budget, across the board. The blame lies in many directions but here today we have got to look at the performance of this council and it's leadership.

'It's a shame these cuts are being rushed through because honesty and transparency could have helped these local facilities.

'Waste services. If you look at the budget lines there's an immediate cut of over £2m in agency services.
Because of the overtime ban, erratic services happened, people were confused, services were unable to deliver a regular weekly collection.'
