Researched the corporate retirement divide with Sarah Anderson Scott Klinger and will never be the same!

At 22 low-wage employers, some execs’ *monthly retirement checks* will be larger than their median workers’ *annual pay.*

Check out what we found:

🧵Provost Mary Boyce – who, lest we forget, hasn't attended a SINGLE bargaining session – sent the entire Columbia University community this email yesterday: provost.columbia.edu/news/time-reac…

We at Student Workers of Columbia are currently preparing a comprehensive response to the many falsehoods it contains.

In the sixth week of Student Workers of Columbia's unfair labor practice strike, Provost Mary Boyce blasted the whole Columbia University community with anti-union rhetoric. This was the 5th of these emails I received in 5 days, and I'm sick of it. Time for a 📖🤓 FACT CHECK on the state of negotiations!

Just to explain a little more about why this offer is deeply fucked—our union filed a ULP with the NLRB over a retaliatory wage freeze. So the 3% 'raise' is actually just resolving their illegal practices, a year later than we were owed that $. Not to mention 5% inflation in NYC.

3,000 graduate student workers at Columbia University have been on strike for the past five weeks. Last night, the university sent them an email threatening to permanently replace them. The strikers have previously filed two unfair labor practices charges against Columbia.

Columbia's endowment saw annual returns of over $3.3 B, a 20% increase in step with the $2.1 T pandemic gains of our nation’s billionaires.

Yet student workers at the institution are not paid a living wage.

NEW: The biggest strike in America right now is happening at Columbia University, where 3,000 student workers are fighting for a livable wage, health benefits, and more.

Columbia says it can't afford workers' demands — after its most lucrative year in 15 years.

Now that we're past mid-month, it's official: Columbia has withheld stipends (not just salary) from Student Workers of Columbia grad students on strike.

A quick thread on how our grad funding works / why this matters 1/

Well it looks like Columbia has spent the summer scheming how best to screw over graduate student workers in the event of a future strike (1/n)

To put things in perspective, the extra 3-year cost of the @GWCUAW contract proposals that Columbia University has repeatedly called “in a different universe” than their own proposals, is about 2-3% of this newly announced fundraising goal. Happy !
