Profit before environment fast track bill puts decision making power in 3 Ministers rather than a court / expert panel opening these 3 Ministers up to lobbying and allegations of bias if a project goes ahead and political donations have been made 👇 rnz.co.nz/news/national/…

The Ministry of Health told Casey Costello the smokefree reforms she wanted to repeal would save New Zealanders $46 billion over the next three decades.

She says she didn't tell Cabinet this because it was based on out-of-date and incomplete information.

A leading economist says the Government is 'being cute' about saying it is not borrowing for tax cuts, while another agrees, saying 'it's not hard maths to work out'.

After months and months of gaslighting NZ’s debt level, the Minister of Finance has finally confirmed they will be borrowing more. They wouldn’t need to borrow more if they hadn’t promised tax cuts.

If the PM really cared about working people, he wouldn’t be getting rid of jobs, he wouldn’t have cut the minimum wage, and he wouldn’t have scrapped Fair Pay Agreements, which would have lifted the pay of hundreds of thousands of low-income workers. nzherald.co.nz/nz/unions-slam…

April 1st usually sees the usual array of people who think that it’s funny to trick you. I don’t usually expect governments to join in, but this year has seen the Coalition Government provide an example with the Minimum Wage increase of 2%. Only this isn’t a joke. A 🧵

Gloriavale is a backward, harmful and evil institution - and this government has shut down the coordinated government response.

Nicola Willis was scathing when the previous govt adjusted the spending allowance in the Budget. Her solution seems to be to just not set a spending allowance in the first place! It’s easy to see she can’t make the numbers add up. The govts promises are unaffordable.

The coalition government has released its Budget Policy Statement today, which is supposed to provide guidance and certainty around the forthcoming Budget. Sadly, both of these are in short supply. It reads like 8 pages of excuses for not doing your homework. A thread 🧵

On becoming govt National scrapped 20 hours free early childhood education for 2 year olds. This week they announced a rebate for ECE that costs $500m less, in other words, they are boasting about a $500million cut to early childhood education funding.

They are threatening to cut funding for school lunches for hungry kids yet somehow Christopher Luxon’s National government found the money to make a handful of mega landlords tax cut millionaires. Their priorities are simply wrong!

The government’s claim we “can’t afford” to continue with the free and healthy school lunches programme rings a bit hollow given their decision to prioritize tax breaks for mega landlords. School lunches are affordable, the National govt is choosing to prioritise other things.

Christopher Luxon is treating hard-working Kiwis like his personal ATM. Premier House needs some work, but he could still live there at no additional cost to the taxpayer. He chooses not to and instead claim an extra $1,000 a week to live in his own house. It’s a rort.
