50 years ago today, Nelson “Nick” Shields was shot and killed in San Francisco at just 23 years old.

Following his death, his father, Pete Shields turned his unimaginable pain into action to #EndGunViolence through his work as a founder of Brady.

17 years ago today, a gunman opened fire on the campus of my alma mater, Virginia Tech, killing 32 people in one of the deadliest mass shootings in US history.

As an alum, a Virginian, and a mom to a current Hokie, today is a painful reminder of why I work to #endgunviolence .

Access to a gun triples the risk of death by suicide. In 75% of youth firearm suicides for which the gun storage method could be identified, the gun was stored loaded and unlocked.
