This newly built tower on a local #farm means all the slurry generated by cows through winter can be stored, then spread in spring and summer when it’s needed by the growing crop. This means that fewer #nutrients escape to the #river , helping to improve #WaterQuality 💚
At the #SpeciesRecoveryCentre we've just moved some of our salmon and trout to indoor tanks for accelerated excystment. We're holding them at 7 degrees and will slowly increase the temperature to 16 to encourage the juvenile mussels to drop off the fish so we can collect them💙💪
Gagea Lutea, or Yellow star-of-Bethlehem on the #RiverKent 💚A rare spring flower mainly found in woodlands which is easily lost amongst the rush of other spring flowers. Its symbolic association with Christianity suggests it was perhaps known as an early sign of spring/new life🌼
📢 In celebration of #WorldWaterDay today, we'd like to say a huge thanks to our wonderful #volunteers getting stuck in here with some #tree and hedge planting to create a linear corridor between #woodlands and to help slow surface water runoff before entering the river 💚
The #RiverKent is home to a small #endangered #mussel population but work by Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) and West Cumbria Rivers Trust shows small populations can be saved! We’re applying learning from the authors of this new paper in our LIFE Programme 💚
