Fab Festival of Play & Creativity 2nd meet up. This process is so much fun. Feel really lucky to be part of a bunch of people who really want to come together to spark accesible, inclusive fun, for all ages in the city.
Thanks to Swarthmore Leeds for the wonderful venue today.

Children are experts in play. We know play is essential to a good childhood & not just a “nice to have”. Children will seek it out wherever they are. Leeds children shared numerous conditions (time/space/permissions) which constrain their everyday play #leedsplaysufficiency

A foundation of Play Sufficiency is looking through the lens of a child.The children’s voice & their lived experiences is a powerful underpinning.Children are experts in what supports or constrains their play + what makes a playable neighbourhood.Often small changes - big impact.

The Community of Play is for anyone wanting to champion play in Leeds. Playful prompt themes each month leading to a DIY play festival in October. March is about tiny acts of mischief. Small things, which don’t cause harm but may raise some smiles. Hopscotch anyone? #mischiefmay

Playful folk of Leeds…still time to register for next week’s gathering to help co-create a DIY festival of play.

Our Play Sufficiency research showed this correlation too. Children with the highest play satisfaction levels in Leeds, also had higher numbers reporting they played out often. Those with rubbish play satisfaction levels had greater numbers hardly ever or never playing out.

Great to be at the Armley Children & Young People’s partnership today putting a lens on children & Play Sufficiency, sharing some key findings from New Wortley and Armley research. Some positive work already happening and lots more to think about #leedsplaysuffiency #lensofachild

Our wee group of instigators are excited for the first community meet up today at Leeds Libraries where we’re plotting & hatching a Festival of Play & Creativity for October 2024.

Worth a listen for anyone interested in active travel and play. Walkable, scootable, wheelable streets that work for children massively extend the variety of spaces children can access for play. One thing Ludicology helped us see was the value in the spaces between play places.
