Just to be clear:

Before Omicron we had:

~6k Hospitalised Covid Patients
~600 new admissions per day

And we were not coping!

Now we have:

~14k Hospitalised Covid Patients
~1,800 new admissions per day
~ 100k less staff

And This Government has decided to do…nothing. Right?

The first hospitals to get hammered by Omicron and it is being driven by a shortage of staff.

This is a very concerning development on top of what was already a crisis. I’ve requested a briefing as soon as possible, and will be keeping up the pressure on Sajid Javid to provide emergency funding for our ambulance service, and a short-term emergency strategy to save lives.

There are nowhere near enough lateral flow tests for Covid-19 in England to allow the government’s policy of their indiscriminate use. Access to tests must be prioritised and clear guidance given on their use. My article for The Guardian. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
