Today was the opening of Women in Art, a must-see exhibition by Lisa Banks in Wisbech Gallery, supported by Blackfield Creatives CIC and the #Fenland Culture Fund. #Wisbech Fenland Council

These are footprints and hoofprints from Must Farm. Captured in silt they’ve survived for almost 3,000 years. Made when people and animals walked around the muddy areas surrounding the site, they’re a fantastic reminder of the people that lived at the settlement.

Just back from The Great Tommy Sleep Out in Wisbech Market Place with Sam Hoy, Steve Tierney, Sid Imafidon, Susan Wallwork & others. It was a cold, rainy night, but for us it was a night. For others it's all nights. Well, the sun's out already & I need caffeine! Fenland Council

Huge congratulations to poet Hannah Teasdale who was appointed the 2024 Fenland Poet Laureate at the Fenland Poet Laureate Awards on Friday 💫

And to Lacey Vinn, a student at Sir Harry Smith Community College, Whittlesey, who was named the 2024 Young Fenland Poet Laureate.

Second place was awarded to Pen Avey with her poem, ‘transient’, and third place was Jonathan Moore with his poem ‘A Fenland Ode’.

And our new Fenland Poet Laureate 2024 is Hannah Teasdale!

Hannah, who moved to the Fens from the Midlands, said winning felt like she was finally “at home”.

She won with her poem ‘The Un-Coupling’, inspired by winter sightings of migrated swans to the fields of Fenland.

We'll be hosting the awards alongside award-winning poet & Chair of our Culture, Arts & Heritage Committee, Dr Liz Sennitt Clough, at March Town Hall.

Tomorrow #Fenland will have two new Laureates: the 2024 Young & Adult Laureates will be announced at a ceremony in March Town Hall. 🥳 This year marks the first time Fenland Council have hosted the awards. Final entries judged by Qu Gao & myself.
