Another lunch set @ Chinese place that opened in place of my obsession. Spicy chicken stirfry. Disappointing heat/flavor. Will keep exploring menu until I find their winners. Only ¥790 ($5.09) for this food coma inducing volume (I actually passed out on the sofa afterwards).

At ¥790 today’s curry lunch special clocked in at an even $5. That’s less than a Big Mac alone at McDonalds in the US.

Today’s fried horse mackerel lunch set clocks in at ¥880 ($5.67). A huge volume of food. Popular with local retirees who I suspect make this their one “full meal” of the day. Quite the social setting with white haired elders chatting their days away.

Made a massive pot of beef stew this weekend. Day 2 and the flavors are melded enough and umami enough tho hold up to a bold Italian red. Comforting all around.

Seems I’m in the minority. This bottle is ¥35,000 and I was happy to pay it for 38 year old rice shochu from one of my favorite distilleries.
