L1 or native speakers of English, were you taught the subjunctive mood in English class at school?

If you werenโ€™t taught it in school, would you still be able to give an example of it in English?

For those who have been told that they can sound almost like a 'native speaker' when speaking in your target language(s), what have you been told about the way you speak that 'gives you away'?

You are given $50 to spend on language learning.

How would you use this amount to contribute to the acquisition of your current target language(s)?

Would you buy a text book, language learning app/software, a class with a tutor, etc., etc. ?

Teachers/tutors on learning platforms such as italki, etc do you ever get to a point with dedicated, regularly returning students where you don't want to teach them anymore? Do you change up the classes or do you encourage them to move on?

Terima kasih bahasabahana atas pertanyaan menarik ini!

Does Indonesian have limited vocab in comparison to other languages?

'English is the language of precision and Indonesian is the language of convenience'

For speakers of a language variant that can receive comments such as 'your accent is awful', etc. how do you respond when you experience this?

I'm asking this question after witnessing a comment made by a ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท speaker to a ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ speaker of French.

For those who are doing/did their university studies in a language of instruction which is/was not your L1 language and who are doing/did your thesis, homework, exams, etc in your non-L1 language, how is/was the experience for you?

For those who identify with being a heritage speaker of a certain language, how do you feel when someone, who had never been exposed to your heritage language before, speaks it more comfortably/fluently than you do?

This video of this 80-year old Indonesian woman who has been living in Tanzania for 40 years warmed my heart. She starts speaking Swahili at 7:12 and then switches to Indonesian at 7:37.

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ

Yesterday was the first time ever I had a conversation in Swahili at work in person, in a professional context, with native Swahili speakers visiting from ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ.

They actually understood what I said, I couldnโ€™t believe it.

I think that out of the languages I speak and am studying, Swahili is the one with the most conjugations given the 18 noun classes (singular + plural), negative and positive forms and all of the tenses and moods.

Don't know how I'm ever going to learn all of this๐Ÿ˜ฉ.

For those learning multiple languages, which language has the most unique or different grammatical feature/concept out of the ones you speak/are learning?

For ex: Out of the languages Iโ€™m learning/I speak, Swahili noun classes only exist in Swahili.
