12 inmates at Magnolia Correctional Institution for Women in Rankin Co. have made history as the 1st female seminary graduates to earn an associate degree. MDOC's seminary program is part of the Leavell College of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

CMCF has 2 events today, one remembering fallen officers & the other kicking off new programs aimed at preparing parolees for good-paying jobs. MS Attorney General Lynn Fitch speaks at the 10 AM Fallen Officer Program. Next is the Grand Opening of Vocational Village at 11:30 am.

Mississippi Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain announces a revamp of MDOC’s official website at mdoc.ms.gov to allow more user-friendly options for visitors. 'Our desire is to get information to everyone in a quicker fashion,' Cain said.

26 female inmates received their “White Coats” & certificates Friday upon completing the first such re-entry program at the MDOC Community Work Center in Flowood. The program grew out of Commissioner Cain's desire to link hospitals w/ workers & parolees needing high-paying jobs.

CAPTURED State inmate Shunekndrick Huffman was back in custody w/in hours after he was discovered missing from Central Mississippi Correctional Facility on Thursday afternoon. He was captured in a dumpster near the prison. He is serving a 7-year sentence for aggravated assault.

Pepperdine University President Jim Gash and Baylor University researcher Dr. Byron Johnson will be studying MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain's changes to Mississippi prisons for the next 2 years. Cain is known for improving prisons w/tough histories. Louisiana's Angola is an example.
