I thought it was self-evident that this is not so much a 'privilege' women enjoy (hate that word and model) but the fact that ... women are part of the spoils, the property, the very resources being fought over? Women historically have been prevented from knowing how to fight.

Or to worry about people you like getting 'tainted' by association with you. Or to see the first comment in response to your book being on an award shortlist is 'urgh, a terf!' It is just constant, the sense of having been marked.

It's also the low-level stuff. I wonder if this author can imagine what it's like even to worry about sharing jokes or comments on social media in case the originator then decides to issue some pompous 'no TERFs sharing my work!' statement.

Because none of the women I know deserved it any more than they do - even less, since those denounced as terfs haven't been glibly, mindlessly, self-servingly supporting some incredibly harmful politics and practices simply in order to look (but not be) kind.

Their lives haven't been affected in any way and while I don't want them to feel every room *they* enter to talk about their books is one in which they risk being accused of genocide, I want them to think about how that might feel. >

There was no consideration of the issues, just 'I'm nice and they're not', plus the standard follow-up, when the women you've denounced argue back, of 'I've had horrendous bullying but I'm just glad to take it instead of trans people for once'. >

It was done in that thoughtless 'I know I'll get loads of abuse for this, but I must make a stand for kindness' way, where actually all you're actually doing is distancing yourself from women who are taking abuse. >
