'Farmland is at risk of being used for solar PV'.

I would add some extenuating circumstances:

Agriculture uses orders of magnitude more land than solar. Biofuel is even ~200x less space efficient than PV. So let's make sure we do 0% biofuel first before complaining about PV.

The debate over Deep Sea Mining is intensifying. It's no secret I'm firmly against it not just for environmental reasons, but because I firmly believe it just won't work financially or technically. The Ocean Foundation just published a great new analysis: oceanfdn.org/new-analysis-b…

Michael Size 🇪🇺 The superior use of land is to not use it for anything. There is a carbon opportunity cost to using it for farming.

The expansion of soybean and palm oil especially has been a key driver of tropical deforestation. We shouldn't be putting those crops in cars.

Los objetivos deseables para nuestra sociedad son los ambientales y los sociales. La economía es una herramienta, no un fin, por eso ha de modificarse tanto como sea necesario, no es un objeto a conservar. Confundir objetivos y herramientas es un problema grave.

Biomass greenwashing 101:

1. Clearcut native Pinyon-Juniper forests in Nevada.
2. Grind them into pellets & dry them with natural gas.
3. Ship them 5,000+ miles to Denmark.
4. Burn them in a power plant
5. Call it green energy.

Governor Joe Lombardo: stop this madness!

Without debating the merits of the projections, IF those trends become reality, then we're done for. Hardly enough to celebrate 😔

I would strongly suggest that all read the linked paper and engage in some deep reflection on the dangerous path that we may be sleepwalking on. I say this as a strong supporter or rigorous science for the ultimate benefit of all.

'fully implementing unconditional Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) made under the Paris Agreement would put the world on track for limiting temperature rise to 2.9°C above pre-industrial levels this century.' - NOT GOOD 🧐

Your regular reminder that the world is still not doing nearly enough to avoid dangerous warming

If we'd started in 2000, emissions cuts of 3% a yr would have kept us below 1.5C

Now, they must fall 18% *every yr* – or we have to use 'negative emissions'

Almost as comically wrong as International Energy Agency's repeated scenarios of growth discussed by AukeHoekstra:

I wonder if it's just a coincidence 🤔
