The people in Nader's mentions hand-wringing about kids skipping class to protest must not be familiar with the (successful) 1963 CPS boycott where some 200K primary school-aged kids protested racial segregation (look up 'Willis Wagons') in the district.

Pro-Palestinian encampments at Chicago universities haven’t faced the same violence and police response as campuses elsewhere. Students are hoping it stays that way.

Here's insight on safety prep and how students are feeling watching Columbia, CCNY, UCLA chicago.suntimes.com/israel-hamas-w…

I think it’s also really easy in this industry to discount younger journalists for their lack of experience but I hope tonight really highlights just how mistaken that assumption is.

the student journalists at columbia and across the country should be so so proud of their work

One WKCR-FM NY student journalist says he hasn’t slept for 40 hours. Earlier, they pondered who would document what happens if not them. The pressure these young journalists are feeling is heartbreaking, and their work is outstanding. Standing with you all from WBEZ Chicago.

The reporting from WKCR-FM NY is stunning. Students journalist doing war zone-like reporting from their own campus. It’s a heartbreaking listen, but also inspiring because they are pros who are holding back no punches about the gravity of the moment.

Student journalists at WKCR are having to correct professional media, including CNN, claiming the Columbia protesters aren't students.

What a black mark on our industry, forcing student reporters to fact-check our unsubstantiated claims while they watch police raid their campus

Mayor Brandon Johnson's reversal in the Bears' favor 'has some Chicago alderpersons concerned the plan is out of step with taxpayers and the progressive agenda Johnson campaigned on' wbez.org/stories/johnso… By @tessa_weinberg Mariah Woelfel WBEZ Government & Politics Team

As a Northwestern Medill alumna, I'm deeply disappointed to see Northwestern block reporters from covering a major news story unfolding on its campus.
Democracy depends on a free & unafraid news media -- that can't happen if reporters are forced to report from behind fences.

When he was running for mayor, Johnson was adamant and clear that keeping the Bears shouldn’t come with a multibillion dollar bill for taxpayers.

This week Johnson says his support is “not at all” inconsistent with his progressive platform or roots: wbez.org/stories/johnso…

Some alderpersons say the Bears plan is out of step w/ the progressive agenda Johnson campaigned on.

'It’s hard for me to put a correlation there between a public subsidy for billionaires and a progressive agenda. Those are oxymorons.'

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s support of the Bears’ plan raised questions, including from one progressive leader who said they’re not elected to subsidize multi-billion dollar corporations, follow-up to yesterday's news with Tessa Weinberg.

Friends of the Parks is out with a harsh statement and pointed questions for the city and Bears leadership after today's announcement of a $4.7B lakefront Bears stadium and campus, but doesn't say whether the group plans to sue to stop the project.

Correction: One caveat -- some of those infrastructure costs (demolition of the old stadium, for instance) would be covered by the Bears, the city's CFO says, so it's possible that the cost to the public would be less than $2.4B.
