Well the representation of Avebury in the 9th c. CE game world of Assassins Creed Valhalla was a bit disappointing. Just some generic stone circles and even a trilithon 😂 There’s an attempt at a stone avenue on the adjacent track but no sign of Silbury Hill #archaeogaming

Skylark hovering and diving over the field out the back. We don’t hear enough of these round here and this will probably be the only one this year.

At first glance Comrie Colliery looks like a barren wasteland, but look a little closer and fantastic flowers start to jump out! Post-industrial landscapes can be havens for biodiversity. Small Cudweed, Sand Spurrey (probably) and Medium-flowered Wintercress blooming here!

Quarrymen came across several of these gigantic fossil tree stumps whilst extracting flag stones at Clayton, Bradford. When it was first discovered the roots extended outwards for around 9 meters!

It’s quite a hike along Hadrians Wall in the 9th century game world of Assassins Creed Valhalla just as it is in real life. Got to Wallsend and a stray dog turned up out of nowhere and befriended Eifor - nice when random things like that happen in a game 🙂

This beautiful fossil plant is ~310 million years old. It is very special to me because it is one of the few fossils my mum ever found.

She found this at a site I co-discovered in my hometown of Doncaster. Mum was thrilled to find this little wonder. 💫

Never realised that Sycamore Gap on Hadrians Wall was so iconic as a landmark that they put it in the Assassins Creed Valhalla game world set in the late 9th century. Eivor Varinsdottir poses for a selfie with the tree 🙂 (which was never there of course in the 9th c. CE)
