As a doctoral advisor, if you've never told your student to change something in their writing, and then 3 months later tell them to change it again... back to how it originally was... are you even doing your job?

I am very interested in the principle of specificity and always wonder how things would improve if people just did the thing they want to improve

Here...one group did the functional tests as training compared to a more traditional form of training

Visualization is a powerful tool used by athletes and other high performers...

But can it also be used for rehabilitation purposes?🩼🩼

Whatever you do to correct limitations it won’t change function unless you progress that gain into it.
People slag off core stability for being fixed and non functional (when it was supposed to progress to dynamic movement) repeat that error with resistance training.

Nice study and exactly the same when it comes to helping people with pain engage with activity. If someone with LBP is fearful of picking up a heavy box, doing a heavy squat isn't going to change that regardless of how 'robust' they are.

Can traditional resistance training improve functional task performance in older adults?

Or is more “task-specific” training required?

Here, 6 weeks of traditional resistance training improved dynamic (5-RM) strength, but had limited carryover to functional task performance…

New study shows that women have a greater inter-set recovery capacity during resistance training compared to men. Results suggest that women may be able to employ shorter rest periods between sets without compromising muscular adaptations. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

New paper @PTiSJournal. Excellent agreement (k = 0.91-0.98) for Jørgen Blindheim Progressor 150 vs. Humac Norm for pk isometric knee ext torque, w/ strong agreement (k = 0.89) w/ quad LSI, & high specificity in identifying those ≥90% LSI (Sn = 0.78, Sp = 0.92)

It is a great privilege to introduce Dr. Caleb Voskuil who has, as of today, successfully defended his dissertation.

Really proud of this guy! Time to celebrate 🍻

Reflecting on my professional growth and journey has been the best reminder that mentorship is critical. I just wish the 2004 Matt Stock could have met the 2024 Matt Stock.

At each phase, we all need a team of supporters to help navigate the unexpected that’s around the corner.
