I cannot overemphasize how discovering this button in Microsoft Word has transformed my ability to fix otherwise mysterious formatting issues. Game-changer! Now I just wish I knew what to call it. How do you pronounce '¶'?

A different kind of “yeast pedigree analysis”:

The Molecular Biology Ph.D. Program // CU Anschutz annual Symposium provided a rare opportunity to capture four PhD advisor/student generations:

Left to right:
Dan Gottschling ➡️ Michael McMurray ➡️ Lydia Heasley ➡️
(McMurray lab PhD student Ben Cooperman) ➡️Ginny Fogg

I should clarify that you don't need to know someone New England Biolabs to get superb technical service! Here it was just a nice bonus. Previously I've received such useful advice from others there that we acknowledged them in one of our recent papers. One reason why they are the best!

You make the figure… and BioRender owns it? Yikes. Say what you want about adobe subscriptions, but they don’t try and own your work. Or make you acknowledge them in Every. Figure. Caption.

This is a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone here can help me identify which species of prickly pear (Opuntia) is pictured here? I isolated a pretty interesting yeast strain from it in March 2019 and would like to be able to correctly name the species. Location: SE Texas

Happy and super excited to share our discovery of a protein fractal! We unravel the surprisingly simple emergence of these marvellous structures and show it might have even been an accident of evolution. Read the full story here

Or just stick around 🧵

We’ve been using these in the lab for this purpose for years, but we’ve never considered autoclaving them!! We just rinse, dry, and reuse but having some sterile could be handy. I guess we’ll soon find out if ours are made of the same material as yours…

Question for yeast folks, especially James Haber
If intratetrad mating is most common post-meiotic event for wild S. cerevisiae, then MAT cassettes at HM should ~never be used & mutations there would escape purifying selection. Or are they sometimes used for spontaneous DSB repair?
