To reiterate: A group of WashU Alumni and students are going on hunger strike in response to the police violence called into our encampment by Washington University in St. Louis administration.

Getting elected as result of a protest movement & then being quiet when peaceful student protestors are attacked, arrested, charged with crimes, & denied access to HOUSING & FOOD isn't an option for me. My introduction to community work was student organizing. I'm a always ride.

not enough people are freaked out that universities are largely run by people who find protests more dangerous than literal rapists.

Engaging in non-violent protest should never be justification for taking away housing, food or medical treatment.

This is the appropriate way to respond to campus protests.

could we consider just maybe holding the actual members of the Israeli cabinet to the same standard that we apparently hold 19 year old American college students

Calling riot cops onto college campuses, dragging away peaceful protesters and slamming profs to the pavement is NOT NORMAL

The time to condemn these practices is now, before we're numb to a U.S. police state and the death of free speech

They were right on Jim Crow. They were right on Vietnam. They were right on apartheid. They were right on Iraq. They were right in Orlando & Ferguson & Louisville & Minneapolis.

They're right now, too. And no amount of condescension or brute force will change that basic truth.

These white moderates are perfectly fine white moderating us into fascism by always asking to “protest the right way” or “wait for a more convenient time” that matches with their fragile sensibilities. Always preferring order over justice. There’s some wise words about that.

Universities be teaching classes on organizing and activism and then arrest their students when they put what they learn into action.

There are snipers on the roof of the school where I got my MA.

There are police beating students at the school where I got my PhD.

At each school, I studied authoritarian regimes and how they brainwash people into believing that state brutality is not only normal, but deserved.

Other universities should take note. Dialogue not violence.

this specific video from the #washu encampment arrests today keeps replaying in my mind. a man tackled and arrested by a total of 6 police officers, mostly state troopers, for filming the arrests of students. it’s so fucking jolting. & he was passing out waters to us all day

With all the lawsuits, with all the payouts, with all the “training” from past protests — St. Louis police still loves its violence and escalation.

Mike Brown Jr. was killed 10 years ago and there has been civil unrest since. St. Louis police has learned absolutely, nothing.
