In 1983 24 year old Catholic taxi driver Kevin Barry Artt was sentenced to life for a murder he did not commit.

The epic legal saga that followed spanned 1 ocean, 2 court systems and nearly 3 decades, as Artt fled to the US, pursued by the UK govt and the FBI.

Out May 16th!

There it is now. In the local newspaper.

No offence to the big boys, but if you’re from West Waterford there’s only one Leader & Observer that counts! 😉🫡

Some extraordinary characters are associated with Spike Island

Many of them titans of Irish and British history

They tangled over the island in stories that span centuries

Here are some historical nuggets of Irish/British collision over a remote island in the Celtic Sea (1)

The first book to share the full and varied 1300 year history of Spike Island, one of our most extraordinary historical sites. John Crotty’s illustrated book is rich with stories from the characters who visited, made the island their home or were sentenced to its shores.

We covered dynamite, horses, train robbers, monks, transportation, map making and all things Spike Island in under 15 minutes!

Hear our chat here: thanks Oliver Callan

The tragic story of Kevin O’Higgins encapsulates the bitter divisions of a time in Irish history that continue to echo in today’s Ireland.

Walled in by Hate by Arthur Mathews (co-creator of Father Ted) is out soon!
