Yesterday — for Nevada Independent — I photographed members of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, People of Red Mountain (@PeeheeMuhuh), Burns Paiute Tribe and others as they protested the Thacker Pass Lithium Mine, marching from the smoke shop on Golden Lane to the federal courthouse.

One motion was denied after tribal leaders presented evidence documenting accounts of an 1865 massacre in the area. In Paiute, the area is known as Peehee Mu'huh which translates to 'rotten moon,' a reference to the massacre.
