On day one, 32 attendees representing key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Fisheries, Southwest Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC), Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement, regional NGOs & the Nairobi Convention were actively engaged.🌍

Co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and WIOMSA, the workshop aims to foster meaningful dialogue and empower fisheries-related agencies and stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of the CBD’s criteria for identifying fisheries-related OECMs. 🐟

Today, on day 2, the spotlight shines on sharing insightful case studies of area-based fisheries management measures in the WIO. 🐟

Engaging group discussions have revolved around identifying potential fisheries-related OECMs, igniting innovative ideas for marine conservation.🌊

The ongoing FAO OECM Workshop in Mombasa is centred on Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) in the Southwest Indian Ocean. 🌊
