Scouting sites for a new study I found the holy trinity of biogenic habitats in Ireland: seagrass, maerl and native oysters, coexisting in the same area forming a mind blowing mosaic of high biodiversity and conservation value. I was grinning the whole swim through.

Since the #oyster deployment in April many individuals have shown impressive growth - this particular oyster lives in an intertidal system in River Hamble - making the most out of the abundance of algae this time of year.

One common word you come across reading historical accounts and records of the oyster fisheries in Ireland/UK is 'inexhaustible'. We know how things turned out.
On the now extinct natural beds off Arklow, the 'Oyster Fishery: The Laws which Regulate it in Ireland' (1864) says:
