Really inspiring two days at #UKDNAWG24 about utilising eDNA in environmental monitoring! Talks and discussions highlighted the crucial role of science and evidence in our mission to restore nature 🌱🧬
And I learned the crucial role of calleighs at conferences…🕺😅
And we are done for this year.
Thanks so much to UHI for hosting us and Bernd Hänfling and the organising group for doing such a fantastic job.
See you all next year

Just got back after a fantastic 2 days at the #UKDNAWG24 conference where I presented my PhD research - using Oxford Nanopore Flongles for #DNA barcoding and #eDNA #metabarcoding . What a wonderful community, excited for next year already!
Moving towards routine taxonomic inventorying using #nanopore sequencing from #metaprobe samples on #seagrass ! Fab work by Ethan Ross !

Our UK DNA Working Group's annual conference is currently taking place in Inverness, with a range of presentations on #DNA -based #biodiversity #monitoring and assessment. Follow #UKDNAWG24 for tweets from the event and see ukeof.org.uk/our-work/ukdna… for details.

Debbie Leatherland NE Chief Scientist explains importance of confidence in #eDNA data for end-users. Open-access methods and clear, detailed reporting crucial for reproducibility and understanding. Without this, results can be undermined and #eDNA uptake will be slower #UKDNAWG24
Very interesting talk by Micaela Hellstrom on collecting #eDNA from snow prints for multiple cryptic species eg polar bears. Less invasive than traditional methods & works well! Clean DNA collected and no effect from UV. Genotyping possible! Also looking at food signals #UKDNAWG24

What’s in a pawprint? Micaela Hellstrom shows how #carnivore pawprints and snow #eDNA can provide insights on population genetics and diet for otter, lynx, snow leopard and polar bear! #UKDNAWG24
We’re about to document progress in #eDNA science at the TENTH UKEOF UK DNA Working Group meeting from UHI Biodiversity & Freshwater Conservation

Sadly no pizza analogies this year, but a great talk by Nathan Griffiths on how we can integrate eDNA into site condition monitoring for Arctic charr #UKDNAWG24
