Interested to understand what “other priorities” Govt needs to balance in the budget that are more important than looking after ppl currently having to skip meals to survive on so-called safety net support payments.

To be honest, I'd rather Labor invested in on budget again to reduce the 44% increase in applicants on waiting lists nationally since 2020 than delivered a , but, I'm a Canberran elite that is 'out of touch with mainstream Australia' according to Sky News

The proposed demolition of Melbourne's inner city Public Housing towers is making international news. And so it should, its an outrage to be destroying communities to make way from private development. aljazeera.com/amp/features/2…

Disability advocates spoke on ABC Radio today calling for standardised national accessibility standards, as many people living with a disability are forced to live in group homes or nursing homes because of lack of accessible housing in the community.

It was a proposal that would have given hundreds of Queenslanders a temporary roof over their heads, turning the 500 bed Pinkenba facility into short term accommodation for our growing homeless population. Meg Sydes

One of the hardest decisions I’ve had to accept since I started working in the sector is the Fed Govt decision on future uses at Pinkenba. Very disappointing and a big knock to the momentum I thought we had federally on housing policy. Q Shelter National Shelter

One simple welfare change the govt could and should make (and virtually costless over the budget's forward estimates) is to link JobSeeker and Rent Assistance to wages AND not just CPI (why treat jobseekers differently to age pensioners in that regard?) x.com/BenPhillips_AN…

Report from the Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee out today. Recommends substantial increases to JobSeeker and CRA and reforming employment services.

We hope the recommendations are not ignored like they were last year.

What's not being done is scaling up supply to meet demand. Apparently it is not a high enough priority for the federal government to fund it on budget. A bigger priority is giving $1.4 billion to the UK to create submarine jobs for Brits at Rolls Royce

We need a social security safety net that actually keeps ppl safe.

Today's independent expert report to govt shows ours doesn't.

Despite small increases in last year's budget, rates of income support for the most vulnerable remain the lowest in the OECD.

Tax is too important for the too hard basket.
It must be part of our strategy for the housing crisis and a fairer future for young Australians.
Great to see David Pocock & @jacquilambie on board for reform.
I’ll review their proposals with interest. theguardian.com/australia-news…

Over 12,000 employed Victorians sought help from homelessness services last year. 70% of those were women. Victoria urgently needs the government to commit to increased funding for rental assistance programs and the building of 60,000 more social homes over the next 10 years.

Every year Anglicare Australia do a snapshot of rental market affordability for people governments would once have proudly housed. Every year, their capacity to 'compete' in a market that supplied 98 out of every 100 newly allocated to people who rent last year weakens
