The tour started with an amazing night in NYC yesterday!! The next two stops are now SOLD OUT (there’s a waitlist if you want to come and haven’t registered yet). There are still spots in Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, Paris 🇫🇷, and at the Hay Festival 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, Green Sports Alliance 🇺🇸, and in Montreal 🇨🇦

The men in the comments are BIG MAD about my latest for Awful Announcing, but I had fun learning more about sports fashion, how it relates to creativity, branding, and self-expression in sports, and how sports media can cover it in a way that doesn’t reduce women to stereotypes:

The WNBA now has money for charters.
They also have money to pay their players more than 10% of league revenue.
All of this is a choice. It always was just a choice.

minneapolisfed.org/research/worki…
How much does labor share in economic output?
This paper notes that share has declined from around 70% to 60%.
How much do WNBA players share in the economic output of the WNBA?
About 10%!
What the WNBA does is not normal at all!

Taurasi has won more than Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, etc...
If you are ranking the top basketball players in history, she belongs toward the top of that list.
Regardless of gender!

This analogy goes in my back pocket. I’m offended for him, because I’ve read nothing that more strongly says Vlad is an unwelcomed guest. “A tourist trying to use Google Maps to argue with the locals” is top notch.

Why are these reporters so weird and sexist? How often is Steph or Bron asked if their “bae” is going to be somewhere?!? Do they not have more intelligent questions about basketball to ask her? Do better.

Not surprisingly, men are very much bothered by the idea that a woman could be put in the same category as a man.
As Nef and I argue in Slaying the Trolls!, it is time we start ranking women as equal to men in sports.
In fact, Taurasi should be ranked above most men!

Question, why is anyone interviewing Pat “pickup league” Beverly?? Who cares what he has to say about the game… He’s one of the worst role players in the entire league. Sexism and entitlement, layered on top of below average NBA ability is a good reason to stop talking to him.

Another marketing opportunity lost in women's sports.
Someday people will write dissertations about all the money lost in women's sports by people making bad decisions (often motivated by sexism!).

The gender-wage gap between the WNBA and NBA is but one of the topics Nef and I tackle in Slaying the Trolls!
Our books should be available in about two weeks!
In the book the history of gender discrimination in sports, pro sports, college sports, the sports media, etc...

Revenue in the WNBA has doubled in the last five years.
The WNBA has more than enough money to pay their players enough to stop overseas trips.
If the WNBA gave just 40% of their revenue to their players, average salaries would be more than $500,000!
