A big THANK YOU to the volunteers from Blakeney Harbour Association, and to Beans Boat Trips and Temple Seal Trips, for helping out with Saturday's litter pick on Blakeney Point ahead of ground-nesting bird season. 👏👏

It was great to be at Brancaster Parish Council’s first Community Green Day on Saturday. Brilliant to see so many ways people can get involved and make a difference for the environment, and to speak to members of the community about our conservation work in the area. 💚

High tides can bring some unexpected visitors to our shorelines. Like this common squid (logilo vulgaris) which our eagle-eyed rangers spotted in a shallow pool on Blakeney Point.

Happy 200th birthday RNLI
Blakeney’s lifeboat station may have closed in 1935 after the harbour silted up, but from here you saved many lives. Today it still stands like a beacon on Blakeney Point, home to our Norfolk Coast and Broads NT rangers who care for this National Nature Reserve.

Our work to look after Morston Quay includes maintaining the hedgerows. We carry out hedge trimming in February before birds are in ‘house hunting’ mode, so nests aren’t disturbed.

Maintenance work on some of the wader scrapes on Blakeney Fresh Marsh. Wader scrapes are shallow depressions that hold water for only part of the year. They support large numbers of invertebrates, providing a rich food source for wading birds and their chicks.

First #blossom at Horsey Windpump. Be sure to visit in spring for the full flowering of the hedgerow that borders the orchard. Common buckthorn, guelder, hawthorn, and field maple turn the space into a tranquil haven. 🌸

We have some extra activities to keep your little ones busy at Morston Quay this half-term. Pick up a wordsearch, do some wildlife-themed colouring, and guess which seal is sharing the picnic bench with you. Available 11am-2pm daily.

Thousands of wading and water birds, including lapwing, golden plover, assorted ducks and 4 species of heron, were seen at our last ranger-led walk at Heigham Holmes.
