Spot the 'humbugs' on the Cell 2a Great crested grebe

My take on today's drake Garganey on Crossland's lake, hopefully it will stay a few days

Just a single Pink-footed goose on Crossland's lake, but it did show well from the West path

Some birds from this morning's nicely warm walk - drake Tufted duck (from Turret hide), Sand martins, Common tern (Silt pond) & Skylark (New workings)

This morning, brief Black tern over Crossland's lake, with a drake Garganey also there.
Savi's & Garden warblers singing in their usual places, also brief Greenshank & 2 Common sandpipers on Silt pond

Yearlist to end of April 2024 North Cave Wetlands stands at 144 species, with new birds for the month shown in Red.
The undoubted highlight of the month was the Savi's Warbler, which is a new bird for the reserve list.

The Garden warbler this morning, just making everybody aware that he is there

Garden warblers', nest on the reserve annually, but they are always unobtrusive & difficult to see.
Until this last week, when one has been singing in the scrub alongside the Silt pond, visible in the higher parts.
A well spent 15 minutes this morning, just watching & listening

Often forgotten about, but as interesting close up as some of it's near relatives, a Little grebe very close to the South hide

Some birds from a very early morning's walk, with some sunshine - Drake Shoveler on the Cell 'C' pool, pair of Teal (Cell 'A'), one of the local tree sparrows along Dryham lane & an 'off duty' Oystercatcher in the sunshine

A pair of little ringed plover were my highlight of the day, but the Bullfinches enjoying their handouts are always a treat! More than 50 species in a stroll! 😊💚👍
