Like many spring flowers, the cowslip is associated with English folklore and tradition, including adorning garlands for May Day & being strewn on church paths for weddings. It has many folk names including 'key of heaven', 'paigles', 'bunch of keys' & 'herb Peter'.

The emperor moth is a large moth; the female can have a wingspan of up to 10cm, but the male is smaller, with large, feathery antennae. During the day, males can be seen flying swiftly about and can be mistaken for butterflies.
